3d scanners to keep naval ships in perfect condition

Marinebedrijf Koninklijke Marine , Dutch company responsible for naval vessels and submarines of Dutch Royal Navy uses Artec Eva and Spider 3d Scanners to scan ships part that need to be repaired. They use this technology if they don't have CAD files for this parts. Before they got the scanners they hade to create CAD models manually.
Than 3d models goes to 3d printing, 3-5 axis milling or 3D welding depends of the current part.
The team no longer needs to take measurements with rulers and other tools. That approach was time-consuming and did not always yield accurate results. “Also it was common that you forgot to take certain measurements and had to go back to the ship again. This is now all over,” says Ben Jansen.
“By using the 3D scanning techniques, we can work faster and more efficient, and of course we are now able to make parts that we could not make in the past or only through a very long lasting and tedious process,” he says.
