Abstracts: The aim of this project is to study about different types of lining material and their chemical & physical properties for selecting ideal lining material to increase life of fire clay brick as well as lining material. The study about different lining material like zirconium, zirconium carbide, silicon oxide properties such as thermal conductivity, density thermal expansion, working temperature and we select the zirconium carbide is an ideal lining material for this experiment. Finally the result shows that the new ideal lining material has low thermal conductivity and it would help to increase life span of fire clay brick and reduce the down time of cupola furnace.

A fire brick or refractory brick or refractory brick is a block of refractory ceramic material used in lining furnaces, ovens, stoves and fireplaces. A refractory brick is mainly built to withstand high temperatures, but it also tends to have a low thermal conductivity for greater energy efficiency. High density bricks are generally used in applications with extreme mechanical, chemical or thermal loads, such as the interior of a wood-fired oven or an oven, which is subjected to abrasion of wood, ash or slag flux and high temperatures. In other less harsh situations, such as in an electric gas or natural gas furnace, more porous bricks, commonly known as "oven bricks", are a better choice. They are weaker, but they are much lighter, easier to form and insulate much better than dense bricks. In any case, refractory bricks should not be sprayed, and their strength should be maintained well during rapid temperature changes.
