1 Infrastructure of a GSM network
1.1 Infrastructure Presentation of a network
GSM's primary role enable communications
between mobile subscribers (GSM) and subscribers of the telephone network switches (RTC -
fixed network).
The GSM network is interfaced with the PSTN and includes switches.
The GSM network is distinguished by a specific access: the radio link.
The GSM network is divided into three subsets:
· The sub radio system - BSS Base Station Sub-system provides and manages
radio transmissions
· The sub routing system - NSS Network Sub System (also known as
SMSS Switching and Management Sub-System to discuss the subsystem
routing). The NSS includes all the functions needed to
calls and mobility management.
· The operating and maintenance subsystem - OSS Operation Sub-System)
which allows the operator to operate its network.
