Wireless sensor networks… And zigbee

.pptx   Wireless sensor networks.pptx (Size: 2.1 MB / Downloads: 26)

Basic definition of sensor networks…

Is an infrastructure of comprised sensing(measuring),
Computing and
Communication elements that gives an administrator that ability to instrument,
Observe, and
React to events and phenomenon in specified environment.

wireless sensor networks can be an
integral part of military command, control, communications, computing, intelligence,
surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting systems.

Health Applications

In some modern hospital
sensor networks are constructed to monitor patient physiological data, to control the
drug administration track and monitor patients and doctors and inside a hospital.

technology uses the globally available, license-free 2.4GHz frequency band. It enables wireless
applications using a standardized set of high level communication protocols sitting atop cost-effective, low-power digital radios based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless personal area networks.

The NWK layer is responsible for interfacing the MAC layer and the Application layer(APL).
This layer is also responsible for network formation and routing
Coordinator or router
End device

MAC layer provides the interface between the PHY layer and other layers.
This layer is responsible for generating beacons.

It is a user defined layer , where the user develops application objects to function the device for various application.
There can be up to 240 application objects in a single device.
It is entailed in various application such as,
Home automation.
Industrial automation.
Health care and so on….
The wireless sensor network is a technology for a wide range of wireless environments. Recently more research has been done in the direction of developing wireless networks that operate in low power, low data rate, low cost personal area network. Many organizations have developed WSNs for Smart Home, Smart Farm, Smart Patient Monitoring Hospital, VANET Traffic Monitoring, Fire Monitoring in Smart Cities. The importance and application has been increased with the recent delivery of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and the upcoming ZigBee standard. The ZigBee Alliance has developed a very low-power and very low-power wireless communications standard for the network layer and application to meet the demands of automation and remote control applications. IEEE 802.15.4 commission started working on a standard low-rate data a little later for physical and MAC sub layer. Then, the ZigBee Alliance and the IEEE decided to join forces and ZigBee is the commercial name of this technology.

The rapid progress of wireless communication and integrated microelectromechanical microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technologies has made wireless sensor networks (WSN) possible. A WSN consists of many inexpensive wireless sensors, capable of collecting, storing, processing environmental information and communicating with neighboring nodes. In the past, the sensors are connected by fixed lines. With the development of ad hoc network technologies, small sensors can communicate over wireless links in a more convenient way (Pottie and Kaiser, 2000, Sohrabi et al., 2000).

In recent years, wireless sensor networks have achieved worldwide attention. These consist of small sensors with limited power and limited resources. The wireless sensor standards developed with the special requirement to consume little power. Some of these standards are WirelessHART, IETF 6LoWPAN, ISA100.11, IEEE 802.15.3, Wibree, IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee. IEEE 802.15.4 has been developed to focus on the low implementation cost, low complexity and low power consumption. IEEE devices are designed to support physical layer and data link protocols, and ZigBee defines the upper layer communication protocols based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standards. This document provides a review of ZigBee technology. First, it gives an introduction to ZigBee technology, then features ZigBee. After that there is an introduction to the ZigBee alliance. Following are the ZigBee-compatible access methods, devices, and topologies. The most important part of this document is the protocol architecture of ZigBee and in the last section there are several applications of ZigBee technology.
