A Yagi-Uda antenna commonly known as a Yagi antenna. It is a directional antenna composed of multiple parallel elements in a line, generally half-wave dipoles made of metal bars. Yagi-Uda antennas consist of a single driven element connected to the transmitter or receiver with a transmission line, and additional "parasitic elements" that are not connected to the transmitter or receiver: a so-called reflector and one or more directors. It was invented in 1926 by Shintaro Uda of Imperial University of Tohoku, Japan, and (with a minor role played by his colleague) Hidetsugu Yagi.

The reflector element is slightly longer than the driven dipole, while the directors are slightly shorter. This design achieves a very substantial increase in the directionality and gain of the antenna compared to a simple dipole.

Also called "beam antenna" or "parasitic array", the Yagi is widely used as a high gain antenna in the HF, VHF and UHF bands. It has a moderate to high gain that depends on the number of elements used, typically limited to approximately 20 dBi, linear polarization, unidirectional (firing) beam pattern with a high front to back ratio of up to 20 dB. and is lightweight, economical and easy to build. The bandwidth of a Yagi antenna, the frequency range over which it has a high gain, is narrow, represents a small percentage of the center frequency and decreases with increasing gain, so it is often used in frequency applications fixed The largest and most well-known use is as terrestrial television antennas on the roof, but is also used for fixed point-to-point communication links, radar antennas and for long-distance shortwave communications by shortwave radio stations and radio amateurs.
